Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged the Federal Government to immediately declare a state of emergency on insecurity following the abduction of pupils from St. Mary’s Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.

Reacting to the incident on Friday, Atiku described the attack as heartbreaking and called for urgent and decisive action to tackle the country’s worsening security challenges.

“Not again. This is truly heartbreaking. How many more lives must be shattered before decisive action is taken? It is not too late for the government to finally declare a state of emergency on insecurity and confront this menace with the urgency it deserves,” he wrote.

Gunmen were said to have stormed the Catholic-owned school in the early hours of Friday, November 21, arriving in large numbers on more than 60 motorcycles and accompanied by a van. They reportedly abducted an unspecified number of students before fleeing the area.

The attack adds to the rising concerns over student kidnappings and widespread violence across several parts of the country.
