Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has made history as the first Nigerian female artist to earn a Platinum Certification in the United Kingdom, thanks to her chart-topping hit single “Rush.”
The certification, awarded by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), confirms that “Rush” has surpassed 600,000 units in combined sales and streams in the UK.
With this milestone, the “Sability” crooner continues her meteoric rise in the global music scene. “Rush” marked her debut entry on the UK Official Top 100 chart, solidifying her status as one of Africa’s most sought-after music exports.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ayra Starr, a Grammy-nominated singer, had previously received a Diamond Certification for the same track in France in 2023.
Originally released in September 2022, “Rush” quickly became a global phenomenon, charting in the top ten in countries like France, Lebanon, and South Africa. Its widespread acclaim contributed to Ayra Starr’s first Grammy nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 66th annual Grammy Awards.
In addition to her UK success, the hit single has also achieved Platinum Certification in Canada and New Zealand, and triple Platinum status in Nigeria — a testament to its enduring popularity and commercial success.
