YouTube has announced its collaboration with Kenya’s Raha Fest to host Ayra Starr’s debut YouTube live concert in Nairobi.
Addy Awofisayo, YouTube’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, highlighted this partnership in a Friday statement, emphasizing YouTube’s commitment to connecting artists with a global audience. She noted that African music has seen significant growth on the platform, with over 70% of Nigerian content being viewed internationally.
“Nairobi, with its vibrant music culture and youth following, is the ideal location for Ayra Starr’s first YouTube live concert,” said Awofisayo. The concert will feature performances from her latest album The Year I Turned 21, along with fan-favorite tracks. The event will be livestreamed, offering a global audience the opportunity to engage with the Nigerian star.
Fans, known as ‘Mobstarrs’, can also participate in the “Woman Commando” YouTube Shorts challenge, creating their own versions of her hit single. Exclusive behind-the-scenes content will further enrich the concert experience, shared via YouTube.
Raha Fest CEO, Ashleigh Ali, expressed excitement over the partnership, stating that the collaboration not only amplifies Kenya’s creative industry but also positions the country as a global entertainment and tourism hub.
