The Bangladesh High Commission in Nigeria on Saturday marked the New Bangla Year 1432 in Abuja, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic relations with Nigeria.
The reports gathered that the Bengali New Year, celebrated annually on April 14 and 15, is a major cultural festival observed by Bengali communities worldwide, particularly in West Bengal, Tripura, and Assam in India. The celebration coincides with the spring harvest and marks the beginning of the Bengali calendar year.
Speaking at the event, Md. Ahiduzzaman Liton, Charge d’Affaires of the Bangladesh High Commission, expressed optimism that the new year would usher in renewed hope, happiness, and prosperity for both nations.
“We believe the celebration of the Bangla New Year highlights the crucial role of cultural traditions in fostering stronger international relationships,” Liton said.
He also noted the increasing enthusiasm among Bangladeshi and Nigerian businesses to collaborate across key sectors such as Information and Communications Technology (ICT), agriculture, knitwear, and state-to-government trade initiatives.
Reaffirming Bangladesh’s commitment to deepening ties, Liton emphasized the need for continued partnership to drive mutual growth and development.
In his goodwill message, Ambassador Mohammed Haidara, Deputy Director of the Asia and Pacific Division at Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, congratulated Bangladesh on the New Year celebration.
He described the occasion as a reminder of the promising opportunities for enhanced partnership and prosperity between both countries, and pledged Nigeria’s commitment to expanding trade and diplomatic cooperation with Bangladesh.
