Bauchi Commissioner Calls for Voluntary Blood Donation to Save Lives

The Bauchi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam, has called on residents to voluntarily donate blood to help save lives, especially in emergency situations requiring transfusions.

Speaking during the 2025 World Blood Donor Day event held at the Aliko Dangote College of Nursing Sciences in Bauchi, the commissioner — represented by the director of medical laboratory and sciences, Alhaji Shehu Ibrahim — highlighted the life-saving importance of maintaining functional and reliable blood banks.

“Blood donation is about saving lives,” he said, encouraging healthy and eligible individuals to cultivate the habit of donating blood regularly. He stressed that voluntary blood donation plays a vital role in supporting healthcare delivery and emergency response.

Dr. Dambam assured that the Bauchi State government remains committed to strengthening the healthcare system, including enhancing blood bank infrastructure across the state.

Also speaking at the event, the executive chairman of the Bauchi State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Sambo Mohammed Alkali, emphasized the need to maintain adequate blood supply in all health facilities.

Represented by the board’s director of planning, Dr. Ibrahim Aminu Baba, he reaffirmed ongoing efforts to ensure blood banks are properly equipped to meet urgent medical needs.
