The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome beheading of a middle-aged man, Dick Nnachi, in Oso-Edda, Edda Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, describing the Thursday incident as “wicked and inhumane.”
Nnachi’s killing comes against the backdrop of a lingering communal conflict between Oso-Edda and Amasiri community in Afikpo Local Government Area over land ownership.
“We are aware of the incident and our men have been deployed to the disputed area,” Ukandu stated.
“An investigation is ongoing to determine the root cause and bring those responsible to justice.”
The police spokesman assured residents that the command was working to restore peace and forestall further escalation of the crisis.
“I remember the state Governor, Francis Nwifuru has declared the area a buffer zone. My advice to the warring communities is to embrace peace,” he added.
