Benue Governor Condemns Killing of 2 Kano Travelers, Vows Justice
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has condemned the killing of two travelers in Agan community, Makurdi, describing the act as “barbaric and unacceptable.”
In a statement released on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, the governor revealed that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The victims, according to Alia, were traveling from Kano State through Benue when they were attacked by suspected hoodlums.
“I’m deeply saddened by the murder of two persons who were traveling through Benue from Kano State by some criminal elements,” the governor said. “Benue people are known for their hospitality and peaceful disposition. We cannot allow a few criminals to damage our reputation.”
He vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice without delay.
Governor Alia extended his condolences to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and the families of the victims. “Earlier in the day, I spoke with my brother, Governor Abba Yusuf, over the unfortunate incident. We are working closely to ensure this does not escalate into a wider security concern.”
Appealing for calm, Alia assured the public that efforts were underway to ensure those responsible are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
