In 2002, Voletta Wallace, alongside her son’s wife, Faith Evans, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles, alleging police involvement in the murder of rapper The Notorious B.I.G. and a subsequent cover-up.

Although the case resulted in a mistrial in 2005, a judge later determined that the LAPD had intentionally withheld evidence, ordering the city to cover the estate’s legal fees.

A revised lawsuit, filed in 2007, sought $500 million in damages but was dismissed in 2010 to avoid interfering with a renewed criminal investigation.

Despite these legal battles, Wallace remained committed to honoring her son’s legacy. She championed initiatives such as B.I.G. (Books Instead of Guns) Night Out, aiming to uplift communities through education.

Wallace also played a significant role in memorializing Biggie’s life through film. She served as a producer for the 2009 biopic Notorious, where Angela Bassett portrayed her. In 2021, she worked as an executive producer on the Netflix documentary Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell.

Her dedication continues to ensure that Biggie’s influence on music and culture is preserved for future generations.
