Google has unveiled its 2024 Year in Search for Nigeria, highlighting Bobrisky, Shallipopi, Beta Edu, and Ogechi lyrics as some of the year’s most popular search trends.
In a statement, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications and Public Affairs Manager for Google West Africa, noted that the annual report provides insights into the topics, personalities, and interests that captured Nigerians’ attention throughout the year.
The analysis revealed Bobrisky as the most searched personality in Nigeria, followed by Beta Edu, while globally, Donald Trump topped the list. Other notable searches included Junior Pope and Herbert Wigwe under trending topics related to deaths.
In the entertainment category, Nigerians showed strong interest in movies like A Tribe Called Judah, Treasure in the Sky, and Damsel. Popular TV series included Supacell, My Demon, and Queen of Tears.
On the music scene, Shallipopi and Khaid emerged as standout artists, while top songs like Boy Spyce’s I Don’t Care, Ayra Starr’s Ozeba, and Commas dominated searches. Nigerians also sought lyrics for songs like Ogechi, Ozeba, and Chandler Moore’s Omemma.
The report also highlighted trending questions such as “How much is dollar to Naira today?” and “Who won the U.S. presidential election?” In the news category, searches about the U.S. elections, Nigeria’s new national anthem, and the national grid were prominent.
Kola-Ogunlade emphasized that the trends reflect how Nigerians use Google to explore cultural milestones, address pressing concerns, and connect with global events.
