Suspected Boko Haram militants have kidnapped Professor Abubakar Eljuma, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Nigerian Army University, Biu, alongside several passengers near Kamuya village in Yobe State.

The attack occurred on March 2, 2025, as the professor was returning from Maiduguri. Reports indicate he was among 30 candidates vying for the position of vice chancellor at the university.

According to security sources, Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters ambushed travelers on the Damaturu-Biu Road, seizing two Golf cars and a Borno Express bus. While female passengers were released, male passengers, including Professor Eljuma, were taken hostage.

Authorities have urged prayers for their safe release, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
