Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has revealed that Queen Elizabeth II was diagnosed with bone cancer over a year before her passing. This revelation is included in his soon-to-be-published memoir, where Johnson sheds light on the late monarch’s health struggles during her final years.
According to Johnson, he learned about the Queen’s condition from her private secretary, Edward Young, who informed him of her declining health ahead of their last meeting at Balmoral Castle in September 2022, just days before her death.
While the official cause of Queen Elizabeth II’s death on September 8, 2022, was attributed to old age, this new account suggests she faced a more serious health battle in her penultimate years. Royal author Gyles Brandreth had also hinted at the Queen’s health issues in his 2022 book, “Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait,” mentioning rumors of her suffering from myeloma, a rare bone marrow cancer. Brandreth’s book highlighted the Queen’s tiredness, weight loss, and mobility challenges during her final year.
Despite these claims, Buckingham Palace has never released detailed medical records regarding the Queen’s health. Following her passing, her eldest son, King Charles III, ascended the throne and is currently undergoing treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer.
