Popular Nigerian comedian Bovi has weighed in on the arrest of TikTok sensation Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following an incident linked to an alleged suicide attempt.

Peller was arrested by the police on Tuesday, December 16, after he reportedly crashed his Mercedes-Benz shortly after receiving a breakup message from his girlfriend, Jarvis. The incident, which quickly went viral on social media, sparked widespread concern and mixed reactions from the public.

Reacting in a video shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Bovi explained that Nigerian law criminalises attempted suicide. According to the comedian, the relevant provision of the Nigerian Constitution makes such an act punishable by law.

Bovi further stated that if found culpable, Peller could face up to one year in prison, noting that many Nigerians are unaware of the legal consequences surrounding attempted suicide.

His comments have since generated fresh debate online, with fans and social media users sharing differing opinions on whether the law should prioritise punishment or mental health support in such cases.

The arrest and subsequent reactions have continued to dominate online conversations, drawing attention to both mental health awareness and existing legal frameworks in Nigeria.
