A 20-year-old British man, Tyler Kerry, has tragically died after being found fatally injured in a lift shaft during a family holiday in Antalya, Turkey.

Tyler, from Basildon, Essex, was discovered on Friday morning at his hotel. Emergency responders attempted to resuscitate him, but their efforts were unsuccessful. His family remains uncertain about the circumstances that led to his presence in the lift shaft.

Describing Tyler as “a young man full of personality, kindness, and compassion with his whole life ahead of him,” his uncle, Alex Price, expressed the family’s profound grief.

The holidaymaker had been visiting the seaside city with his grandparents, Collette and Ray Kerry, his girlfriend Molly, and other relatives.

Ongoing Questions

Mr. Price stated that Tyler was found at 07:00 local time (04:00 GMT), but the family has no clarity on whether he was on top of the lift or at the bottom of the shaft when discovered.

“We are unclear about how he came to be in the lift shaft or the events immediately preceding this,” he told the BBC.

A post-mortem examination has been completed, and the family has received a death certificate. They hope for Tyler’s body to be repatriated to the UK by Tuesday.

Community Support

A GoFundMe page set up to cover funeral costs has raised over £4,500. Writing on the page, Mr. Price said the family was “completely devastated” and thanked the public for their kindness and support during this difficult time.

A UK government spokesperson confirmed assistance is being provided to the family following the tragedy.

The family is now awaiting further updates and answers about the circumstances surrounding Tyler’s death.
