Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on reaching the midpoint of his tenure, urging Nigerians to rally behind the administration’s ongoing efforts to tackle poverty and inflation.

This was made known in a statement issued on Wednesday by Garba Shehu, Buhari’s former Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.

Buhari also called for steadfast support for the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government as it marks two years in office, noting that meaningful reforms take time and cannot produce instant results.

He cautioned that critical reforms and necessary changes should not be undermined by “mettlesome domestic politics.”

“As the party and the government celebrate, the country should be reminded that leadership is a continuous journey,” he said.

The former president commended the Tinubu administration’s ongoing efforts to reduce poverty and inflation, which he acknowledged have severely affected the most vulnerable citizens.

Seeking the collective support of Nigerians, Buhari emphasized that the responsibility of addressing economic challenges should not rest solely on the government.

“The private sector and all of us, as citizens, must join in all ways we can,” he said.

Buhari encouraged Nigerians to remain optimistic and confident in the country’s future, cautioning against placing excessive demands on government.

“Our expectations from our governments should not get heavy,” he said.

Extending his heartfelt felicitations to President Tinubu, Buhari offered prayers for wisdom and guidance for his successor, saying, “May God keep and grant him the wisdom and care to continue to lead the country.”
