The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a warning to the public about fraudulent activities involving fake contract award letters and claims of special financial interventions purportedly linked to the Bank.
In a statement signed by Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, Acting Director of Corporate Communications, the CBN clarified that such claims are false and intended to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
“The purported letter in circulation is fraudulent,” the statement read. “The individuals behind these claims are motivated solely by the desire to deceive and exploit the public. Any such assertions should be disregarded.”
The CBN emphasized that its current management has discontinued direct development interventions and special project funding. Additionally, it has not authorized any public notices for such initiatives on social media or other news platforms.
Reaffirming its commitment to its core mandate, the CBN stated:
“The Bank remains focused on ensuring monetary and price stability as well as maintaining a sound efficient financial system in Nigeria. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or publications to law enforcement agencies.”
The CBN’s advisory serves as a reminder to Nigerians to exercise caution and verify any claims related to financial transactions or project funding to avoid falling victim to scams.
