Chelsea Sign Portuguese Midfielder Dario Essugo from Sporting CP
Chelsea have completed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Dario Essugo from Sporting CP in a deal worth €22.3 million.
The 20-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the Premier League side, committing to Stamford Bridge until June 2033.
Essugo, who made his senior debut for Sporting at just 16 years and six days old, spent last season on loan at Spanish side Las Palmas. Despite the team’s relegation from La Liga, he impressed with 27 appearances across the campaign.
The highly-rated midfielder will link up with the Chelsea squad later this month for their pre-season tour of the United States.
A regular in Portugal’s youth national teams, Essugo has represented the country at every level from under-15 to under-21.
His arrival is part of Chelsea’s continued investment in young talent and is expected to be followed by the signing of Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap, who has reportedly completed his medical ahead of a £30 million move.
