China to Boost Zambia’s Development with Strategic Partnerships
China has expressed readiness to share its development expertise to help Zambia harness its full potential, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, Han Jing, announced during a press conference in Lusaka. The statement follows the outcomes of the recently concluded Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit in Beijing.
“China is eager to leverage its development experiences and collaborate with Zambia, a nation rich in natural resources and human capital,” said Han. He emphasized that China’s support would focus on enhancing Zambia’s socioeconomic transformation through productivity boosts, higher value addition, and stronger adaptation to the digital age.
The ambassador highlighted areas such as infrastructure development, green energy, agricultural modernization, and industrial expansion where China could offer significant support. He noted that China is actively encouraging more Chinese firms to collaborate with Zambian partners, particularly in solar energy and water management, to help mitigate the country’s ongoing electricity crisis.
In partnership with Zambian authorities, China is formulating strategic plans for power generation, storage, and distribution aimed at addressing frequent power shortages. According to Han, these plans, once realized, could turn Zambia into a net exporter of electricity.
In addition, he pointed out that the revitalization of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway would be a pivotal project, not only symbolizing longstanding friendship but also transforming into an economic corridor that fosters regional connectivity.
The FOCAC summit, Han said, marked a new era in China-Africa relations, and the agreements reached will foster inclusive and sustainable development in Zambia and across Africa.
