City Boy Movement Denies Allegation Against Seyi Tinubu, Threatens Legal Action

The City Boy Movement has described as baseless and malicious the allegation that its Grand Patron, Mr. Seyi Tinubu, mobilised thugs to disrupt the inauguration of executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Abuja.

Director-General of the group, Mr. Francis Shoga, made this known in a statement issued in Lagos on Friday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the City Boy Movement is a youth-driven sociopolitical and good governance advocacy organisation.

The controversy follows a claim by a factional president of NANS, Atiku Isah, who, on Wednesday, accused Seyi Tinubu of disrupting his inauguration and ordering a lockdown of the venue.

In a statement issued by its PRO, Orowole Owoyemi, the faction further alleged that Mr. Tinubu attempted to hijack the leadership of NANS, thereby undermining its autonomy and the integrity of student representation.

Reacting to the allegation, Shoga dismissed the claims as a desperate attempt at character assassination, insisting they were not backed by any credible evidence.

“The City Boy Movement is aware of false claims that our Grand Patron, Seyi Tinubu, mobilised thugs to disrupt unauthorised NANS inauguration events,” he said.

“As Director-General, I firmly reject these groundless accusations, which aim solely to smear the good name of Seyi Tinubu. The outlandish claims of being stripped and filmed under duress are nothing more than staged theatrics seeking undue public sympathy.”

Shoga maintained that Mr. Tinubu is committed to youth empowerment, constructive dialogue, and impactful development, not interference in the internal affairs of student organisations.

He warned those behind the allegations to desist from their defamatory campaign or be prepared to face legal consequences.

“The group will not remain silent while opportunists exploit the President’s son’s name for publicity,” he added.

He urged young Nigerians to ignore the “theatrics” and focus on productive engagement and nation-building, stressing that “such disorganised antics, regardless of backing, will not succeed in misleading the public.”
