Civil society groups have renewed calls for dialogue to address the escalating cycle of revenge attacks between communities in Jonglei State and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA).

A representative of the group highlighted recent incidents where youth from Jonglei State launched attacks on villages in Pibor, reportedly in retaliation for earlier assaults by Murle youth.

“Recently, some youth in Jonglei State marched and overtook villages in Pibor in response to repeated attacks by Murle youth. These incidents can only be described as acts of revenge,” the representative stated.

The group criticized the lack of decisive action from authorities, accusing leadership of failing to prioritize peacebuilding efforts. “Our conclusion as a civil society is that the leadership is not willing to end the killings in Jonglei and GPAA. We have been urging our government to prioritize dialogue and establish a buffer zone, but nothing has been done,” they added.

The organization reiterated its call for dialogue, urging the government to take immediate and meaningful action to break the cycle of violence and foster long-term peace in the region.
