The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old suspect in connection with an alleged armed robbery and murder, thanks to the swift intervention of vigilant community members.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, on Tuesday, the suspect was apprehended at the scene of the crime by residents who also helped recover the weapon used in the attack.
Kiyawa disclosed that on Monday at about 6:40 a.m., the command received a distress call reporting that two suspected armed robbers had attacked Shehu Muhammad, a resident of the Danbare area, using a long sharp cutlass and inflicting multiple injuries.
He said police personnel were immediately deployed to the area and, with the help of the community, one of the suspects was arrested.
“The suspect is currently in police custody and will face prosecution for armed robbery and culpable homicide upon completion of the investigation,” Kiyawa said.
The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via provided emergency contact numbers.
“The Police command assures the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order and bringing perpetrators to justice,” he added.
The command also commended residents for their prompt response and expressed appreciation for the continued support in maintaining peace and security across the state.
