Ian Watkins, the former lead singer of Welsh rock band Lostprophets, has d!ed following a violent attack inside HMP Wakefield, a high-security prison in West Yorkshire, England.

The 48-year-old, who was serving a 29-year sentence for multiple child s£x offences, was reportedly attacked with a knife by another inmate on Saturday morning.

According to Sky News, prison staff immediately raised the alarm after discovering Watkins seriously injured in his cell. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while the facility was placed under lockdown as detectives from the West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Inquiry Team launched an investigation.

A Prison Service spokesperson confirmed the death but said further details would not be released pending the ongoing police investigation.

Watkins had previously survived a stabbing incident at the same prison in 2023, when he was held hostage by three inmates for six hours before being rescued by guards.

The disgraced musician was sentenced in December 2013 to 29 years in prison, with an additional six years on licence, after admitting to 13 child s£x offences, including the attempted rape of a fan’s baby and encouraging another woman to abuse her child during a webcam session.

During his arrest in 2012, police seized multiple computers, mobile phones, and storage devices containing explicit child abuse videos, some of which Watkins had personally recorded.

Investigators at the time described him as a “committed and organised paedophile.”

Watkins rose to fame in the early 2000s as frontman of Lostprophets, known for hits like Last Train Home and Rooftops, before his music career ended abruptly following his arrest and conviction.
