Cote d’Ivoire Seeks $22bn to Tackle Climate Change Crisis
Cote d’Ivoire requires approximately 13 trillion CFA francs (22 billion U.S. dollars) to combat climate change and mitigate its adverse effects, according to Jacques Konan, the Minister for the Environment, Sustainable Development, and Ecological Transition.
Speaking at a recent workshop, Konan emphasized the importance of mobilizing international partners to secure the necessary funding to meet the country’s climate commitments. “The action plan developed by Cote d’Ivoire to address climate change is estimated at 13 trillion CFA francs,” he said.
The government has outlined a portfolio of projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening the resilience of vulnerable populations.
The World Bank has highlighted that rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, coastal erosion, and flooding present significant challenges for Cote d’Ivoire, posing threats to both the nation’s environment and its economic stability.
