An Osun State High Court sitting in Ilesa has restrained Governor Ademola Adeleke and others from appointing a new Owa-Obokun of Ijesa land.

The court’s decision was made in response to a suit filed by Prince Debo Adeyemi, Prince Adeboye Adewale, and nine others from the Ofokutu Royal Family.

They sought to stop the appointment of a new monarch, particularly Prince Clement Adesuyi from the Haastrup Family.

Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe granted an interim injunction, restraining Governor Adeleke, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Attorney General of Osun State from taking any steps regarding the appointment of a new Owa-Obokun.

The court’s order reads: “An order of interim injunction is granted, restraining…from taking steps regarding the presentation, nomination, selection, election or installing or appointing…Prince Clement Adesuyi or any person as Owa of Ijesa land…pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

The matter has been adjourned until January 14 for a hearing of the pending application before the court.
