Court Dismisses Bobrisky’s Rights Suit Against EFCC Over Alleged Harassment

A Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed a fundamental rights suit filed by Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, widely known as Bobrisky, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Bobrisky had sought N200 million in compensation for alleged “psychotic trauma” and an additional N1 billion from the National Assembly for purportedly violating his right to a fair hearing. He further requested the court to prevent the EFCC and the National Assembly from harassing, detaining, or declaring him wanted.

Delivering the judgment on Thursday, November 28, Justice Alexander Owoeye ruled that the claims were unsubstantiated and lacked merit.

“Having evaluated the evidence placed before this court, it is evident that the applicant has failed to provide credible evidence to justify the reliefs sought. The claims of violation of fundamental rights against the respondents were not substantiated by the affidavit evidence presented. Therefore, the claims lack merit and are dismissed accordingly,” Justice Owoeye stated.

The judge also declined to award damages against the EFCC.

In a statement released on Friday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale welcomed the judgment, emphasizing the court’s decision to uphold justice.
