Court Jails Singer Portable for Three Months Over Assault, Theft Charges
Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Olalomi Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months in prison by an Ogun State Magistrate Court after being found guilty of assault and theft-related offences.
Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo delivered the judgement on Tuesday at the Magistrate Court in Ifo, convicting Portable on two of the three counts filed against him. The case, filed as charge No. MIF/192C/2023, involved allegations of assault and the theft of musical equipment.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred on November 18, 2022, in the Okeosa, Ilogbo area of the Ifo Magisterial District. According to the charge sheet, Portable and others still at large conspired to assault a man identified as Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi and also stole studio equipment, including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor and an AKG P420 condenser microphone.
Although the singer was earlier granted bail in April 2023, he was recently remanded after failing to appear for previous court hearings.
During sentencing, Magistrate Ilo ruled Portable guilty on counts of conspiracy to assault and unlawful assault. He was sentenced to one month in prison with a N10,000 fine option for the first count and two months with a N20,000 fine option for the second count.
The court did not uphold the third count related to theft.
