Court Rejects Ex-Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello’s Bail Request

Justice Maryann Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on Tuesday dismissed a bail application filed by Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State.

The judge ruled that the application was premature, as it was submitted on Nov. 22, before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) formally took Bello into custody on Nov. 26. The ex-governor was subsequently arraigned on Nov. 27.

Justice Anenih noted that bail applications must comply with procedural standards, including the applicant being in custody at the time of filing. The EFCC is prosecuting Bello over allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure as governor.
