A Grade ‘A’ Customary Court at Mapo, Ibadan, has remanded two persons, Mubarak Idriss and Faisol Bamidele, over an alleged theft of N1.1 million worth of copper wire.
The president of the court, Mrs S. M. Akintayo, remanded the defendants at Agodi Correctional Centre on Tuesday.
Akintayo, however, granted each defendant bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, she said, must provide tax clearance evidence of two years by the Oyo State Government.
She, subsequently, adjourned the case till Feb. 5 for a definite hearing.
The police prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Ayeni, had earlier told the court that Idriss and Bamidele were facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor said they were apprehended after allegedly stealing the copper wire, the property of one Yusuf Muideen.
He stated the offences contravened Sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
