A major cyberattack caused significant disruptions to Russian state-owned broadcaster VGTRK on Monday, according to media reports.
The Russian online newspaper Gazeta.Ru attributed the attack to a pro-Ukrainian hacker group known as “sudo rm –RF,” citing information from Russian intelligence officials.
The attack impacted VGTRK’s online broadcast, internal services, as well as the company’s internet and telephone connections, Gazeta.Ru reported. The popular news channel Russia-24 was also unavailable online throughout Monday morning.
Reports indicated that the broadcaster’s servers were disabled, and critical data had been deleted, with recovery efforts expected to take considerable time.
As of now, state television officials have not yet issued any public statements regarding the incident.
