The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug peddlers and recovered a large quantity of illicit substances from them.
Spokesman for the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Warri.
Edafe said the suspects were apprehended on Sunday by the command’s Crack Squad, Asaba, after officers stormed their hideout at Effurun GRA, Uvwie Local Government Area, following credible intelligence on their activities.
“Upon search of their Sienna vehicle, 450 bottles of CSP codeine, 188 bottles of bargadine, 208 sachets of tramadol 100mg, 300 sachets of swinol, 100 sachets of tramadol 500mg, 50 sachets of rophynol and a big packaged bag of weed suspected to be cannabis were recovered,” he said.
The police spokesman revealed that preliminary investigation indicated the suspects had been in the illicit business for about two years.
Edafe further explained that the suspects purchased the drugs in Onitsha, Anambra State, and transported them to their base in Delta under the cover of darkness.
He added that the command had intensified efforts to arrest other members of the drug syndicate.
