A dispatch rider was killed on Wednesday, October 16, after being hit by a moving train at the PWD Railway Level Crossing in Ikeja, Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in a statement, confirmed the tragic incident and renewed its call for strict adherence to traffic rules at railway crossings.

According to the agency, the rider, whose motorcycle was registered as AGL 179 QR, attempted to cross the tracks despite warnings of an approaching train. The collision occurred near the route leading to Ikeja GRA, resulting in the rider’s instant death.

Eyewitnesses said the victim ignored the safety signals and tried to outrun the train.

“He was riding very fast and ignored the signals warning of the approaching train,” an eyewitness recounted.

LASTMA officials, along with emergency responders, arrived promptly at the scene to manage traffic and secure the area.

The agency described the incident as another painful reminder of the dangers of impatience and disregard for railway safety regulations, urging dispatch riders and motorists to exercise caution and obey all warning signs at crossings.
