Domestic Worker Arrested for Killing Employer and Her Teenage Son in Delhi After Being Reprimanded
A 24-year-old domestic worker has been arrested for allegedly murdering his employer, Ruchika Sewani, 42, and her 14-year-old son, Krish, at their residence in Lajpat Nagar, Southeast Delhi, following a dispute over his repeated absence from work.
The tragic incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, July 2, 2025. The suspect, identified as Mukesh Paswan, reportedly worked as both a driver and shop helper for the Sewani family, who owned a garment store in the local market.
According to Delhi Police, the suspect was enraged after being confronted by Ruchika earlier in the day for skipping work and failing to repay a ₹40,000 loan she had extended to him. Investigators believe the confrontation triggered the deadly attack.
Ruchika and her son were found dead in their home after her husband, Kuldeep Sewani, was unable to reach them by phone and sent a worker to check. When the door remained unanswered, Kuldeep returned home and alerted the police. Officers arrived, broke open the main door, and discovered Ruchika’s body in the bedroom and Krish’s body in the bathroom. Both had deep neck wounds believed to be inflicted with a sharp object.
CCTV footage from a nearby building showed the suspect ringing the family’s doorbell at 7:30 p.m. and leaving about 17 minutes later. Police also discovered that the CCTV camera outside the Sewanis’ home had been deliberately disabled.
After the attack, Mukesh allegedly took Krish’s phone and fled. The police tracked the phone to his residence in Amar Colony, but he had already absconded. His family members were questioned, and a manhunt was launched.
Acting swiftly, Delhi Police alerted major railway stations, suspecting Mukesh was fleeing to his hometown in Hajipur, Bihar. Around 7 a.m. the next day, police confirmed he had boarded the Magadh Express. In coordination with the Uttar Pradesh Police, Mukesh was intercepted and arrested at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction.
“Mukesh has been handed over to the Delhi Police and will face interrogation after being presented in court,” said DCP (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari.
Authorities say an investigation is ongoing to determine if proper background verification was conducted at the time of his employment.
