Donald Trump Jr. will visit Greenland on Tuesday, sparking renewed attention following President-elect Donald Trump’s remarks about U.S. interest in the autonomous Danish territory.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Trump Jr. expressed enthusiasm about the trip: “As someone who has traveled to some fascinating places across the globe as an outdoorsman, I’m excited to stop into Greenland for a little bit of fun this week.”
According to a source familiar with the plans, the visit is entirely personal. Trump Jr. is expected to arrive in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, on Tuesday afternoon. His itinerary includes engaging with locals, exploring cultural landmarks, and creating video content for his podcast.
The source clarified that the visit is not political, adding, “He will not meet with any government officials or political figures.” The trip is described as a “brief, day-long visit.”
This development follows President-elect Trump’s recent assertion that U.S. “ownership and control” of Greenland is critical for “national security and global freedom.” The comments reignited debates over American interest in the region.
In response, Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede firmly stated, “Greenland belongs to the people of Greenland. We are not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom.”
Greenland, though self-governing, remains part of the Danish monarchy. It manages its internal affairs while electing two representatives to Denmark’s parliament, the Folketing.
