DRC Awaits First Mpox Vaccines as Outbreak Persists
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will receive its first shipment of mpox vaccines next week, a critical lifeline from the United States, according to the country’s Health Minister.
This intervention comes as the nation grapples with a severe outbreak, disproportionately impacting its population.
With over 96% of global mpox cases and deaths occurring in the DRC, the country urgently needs 3 million vaccine doses to curb the virus’s spread. In a show of international solidarity, the United States and Japan have pledged to donate vaccines to support the DRC’s response efforts.
The arrival of the vaccines marks a significant step toward controlling the outbreak and safeguarding vulnerable communities.
Health officials have expressed appreciation for the global support and emphasized the need for ongoing cooperation to overcome the crisis.
