Drone Strike on East Darfur Hospital Kills 64 – WHO
At least 64 people have been killed and dozens injured following a drone attack on a hospital in East Darfur, Sudan, the World Health Organization has confirmed.
In a statement shared on Sunday, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the agency had verified the strike on Al-Dhaein Teaching Hospital, located in the state capital.
According to him, the victims include 13 children, a doctor, two nurses, and several patients who were receiving treatment at the facility at the time of the attack.
Tedros revealed that attacks on healthcare infrastructure have had devastating consequences since the conflict in Sudan began, with more than 2,000 people killed and over 720 injured across 213 verified incidents involving medical facilities.
He called for the immediate protection of civilians, as well as medical and humanitarian personnel operating in conflict zones.
Clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces have persisted since April 2023, despite ongoing but stalled diplomatic efforts to broker peace.
The prolonged fighting has triggered a severe humanitarian crisis, leaving tens of thousands dead, displacing millions, and pushing parts of the country toward famine.
