D’Tigress Boost Nigeria to 8th in FIBA Women’s Rankings After Historic Paris Olympic Games

Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has achieved a historic leap in the latest FIBA World Ranking, moving up four spots to claim the eighth position.

This remarkable rise follows their impressive performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where they became the first African team (male or female) to reach the quarter-finals.

D’Tigress secured two wins out of three games in the group stage, including a 75-62 victory over Australia, who later won the bronze medal. Although Nigeria faced a 54-75 loss to France in their second game, they bounced back with a 79-70 win against Canada, advancing to the quarter-finals.

Despite a 74-88 defeat by the U.S., who eventually won their 10th Olympic title, D’Tigress’ performance secured them a place in the top 10 of the FIBA World Rankings—making them the first African team to achieve this milestone.

Other notable changes in the rankings include Australia climbing to second, France rising to third after their silver medal win, and Germany moving up eight places to 13th.
