Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has ordered an immediate freeze on all state government bank accounts, according to a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, on Thursday.
Governor Okpebholo warned that any commercial banks or officials within ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) failing to comply would face strict penalties.
“All government bank accounts in commercial banks are hereby frozen. Banks are instructed to ensure no funds are withdrawn from these accounts until further notice,” the statement read, citing the need for financial reconciliation and investigation.
Additionally, the governor directed that the Ministry of Roads and Bridges be reverted to the Ministry of Works. He noted that the ministry had yet to complete any bridge or significant road project, despite its current designation.
“It is ironic that the Ministry of Roads and Bridges has not constructed a single bridge, not even a pedestrian one,” Okpebholo remarked.
The governor instructed all state entities to immediately update official documents and platforms to reflect the ministry’s name change.
