Edo Governor Orders Vigilante Network to Resume Operations Amid Rising Insecurity

0 1

In response to escalating violence in Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki has directed the Edo State Security Network to resume active patrols and community surveillance. This directive follows a series of recent violent incidents, including an armed clash in the Ikpoba area of Benin City that resulted in over 10 fatalities.

In a statement released by Chris Osa Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, the governor emphasized that the surge in violent crimes, including homicides, demands urgent intervention to restore public safety. The directive was issued after a State Security Council meeting that reviewed the state’s deteriorating security landscape.

Obaseki urged the Commissioner of Police to enforce order and ensure stability across Edo State. “The safety of lives and property is our utmost priority,” the statement read, affirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding communities against rising threats.
