Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has announced an indefinite suspension of all revenue collections, particularly at motor parks, effective immediately. The governor directed the State Commissioner of Police to arrest any individuals who continue revenue collections on behalf of the state, stating that such actions now violate the government’s order.
This directive was disclosed in a statement issued by Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, on Wednesday in Benin. According to the statement, Okpebholo aims to address ongoing issues related to revenue collection and intends to provide updated guidelines after a thorough review.
“The collection of revenues in the state has been suspended indefinitely,” the statement read. “Anyone found collecting revenue on behalf of the state government will be subject to arrest by the Commissioner of Police.”
Governor Okpebholo assured that further instructions will be issued soon to address public concerns and outline the state’s new approach to revenue handling.
