The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed that education is a fundamental right for all children, emphasizing its role in enabling them to achieve their full potential.

Speaking at the inauguration of an Alternative High School for Girls in Osogbo, Osun State, on Friday, Tinubu highlighted the administration’s commitment to leveraging education as a tool for empowering women and girls.

“This initiative underscores the belief that education is not a privilege but a basic human right, regardless of gender or circumstance. It aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4,” Tinubu stated.

The facility, one of six new alternative schools being established nationwide, features state-of-the-art amenities, including a crèche for young mothers, a skills acquisition center for vocational training, and modern classrooms designed to create a conducive learning environment.

Tinubu revealed that similar schools would be built in Imo, Kwara, Lagos, Oyo, and Rivers States, complementing the 44 existing schools across Northern Nigeria. She praised the initiative as a beacon of hope for girls and women, providing them with second chances to pursue education and economic independence.

The First Lady also reiterated the Renewed Hope Initiative’s dedication to fostering programs that empower girls, women, and youth, aiming to enhance the lives of families nationwide.

Dr. Suweba Ahmed, Minister of State for Education, described the school as a pivotal project designed to empower girls and women, ensuring they lead meaningful lives.

Mrs. Titilola Adeleke, wife of Osun State’s governor, commended Tinubu’s efforts, lauding her dedication to securing a brighter and safer future for the girl-child.

Additionally, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), praised the First Lady for championing the Alternative High School initiative, describing it as a transformative “second chance” for girls and women across the country.
