EFCC Calls for Transparency, Accountability in Public Office Management
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged public office holders to uphold transparency, accountability, and probity in managing public funds.
EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, made this call during a meeting with a delegation from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), led by its Managing Director, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, in Abuja.
Olukoyede stressed that leaders who fail to embrace these principles will eventually face a day of reckoning, emphasizing that positions of trust should only be held by individuals with strong moral integrity. He noted that while Nigerians are inherently good, the system has enabled fraudulent practices, which must be addressed through transparency.
The EFCC chairman reaffirmed the commission’s unwavering commitment to the anti-corruption fight, vowing to continue working to strengthen the economy and promote good governance. He also expressed readiness to enhance cooperation with the NDDC in fulfilling its mandate.
Ogbuku, in turn, praised the EFCC for its role in recovering funds for the NDDC, which have positively impacted the Niger Delta region. He announced plans to invite the EFCC to commission projects funded by these recovered monies, reflecting the success of the collaboration.
He also highlighted the NDDC’s “Rewind to Rebirth” initiative, aimed at improving the commission’s image by focusing on transparency and learning from past mistakes. Ogbuku further called for enhanced cooperation with the EFCC, particularly in providing technical support and training for NDDC finance staff.
Olukoyede reiterated the EFCC’s dedication to combating corruption and promoting economic growth through transparent governance.
