Egypt Launches Tender for 500MW Solar Power Project in West of Nile Region

Egypt has opened a tender for the development of a 500-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in the West of Nile area, as part of efforts to expand the country’s renewable energy capacity.

The tender was announced by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), which confirmed that applications under the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) will be accepted until May 11, 2026.

According to the tender documents, the project will be implemented under the independent power producer (IPP) framework and developed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis. The selected developer will be responsible for the full project lifecycle, including design, financing, construction, ownership and operation of the solar facility.

Once completed, the solar park is expected to contribute significantly to Egypt’s clean energy targets, supporting the country’s ambition to generate 42% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030 and 65% by 2040.

Synergy Consulting Inc is providing technical support to EETC in structuring and managing the qualification and tender process, while the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is backing the initiative as financial and commercial adviser.

In a related development, EETC is also in the process of selecting a contractor for a separate 1-gigawatt (GW) wind power project in Egypt’s West Sohag region, with the RFQ stage for that project open until March 1, 2026.

The twin projects underscore Egypt’s accelerating push to diversify its energy mix and scale up large-scale renewable power generation nationwide.
