The Emir of Akko in Gombe State, Alhaji Umar Atiku, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the upgrade of Kumo General Hospital to Federal Medical Centre (FMC).
He gave the commendation on Tuesday during a grand celebration organised by the Akko Emirate to mark the hospital’s upgrade.
He described the upgrade as “a significant step toward improving healthcare services in the region.”
He also appreciated Gov. Inuwa Yahaya “for his role in facilitating the process, noting that the transformation of the hospital would enhance access to quality medical care for the people of Akko and beyond.
The traditional ruler emphasised the importance of the hospital’s new status, saying it would bring specialised healthcare closer to the people, reduce medical referrals outside the state and create employment opportunities for medical professionals.
He urged young people in his domain to take education seriously, stressing that “acquiring knowledge is key to securing a better future.
He also advised them to adopt a responsible and disciplined lifestyle, reminding them that good character and education are essential for personal and community development.
He urged parents and guardians to encourage their children to pursue education, as it remains a vital tool for progress and stability in society.
Alhaji Abubakar Lugerewo, the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, also commended the governor for improving healthcare in the state.
He commended the governor for reconstructing the hospital, which has now been upgraded to a Federal Medical Centre.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of Akko Local Government Council, Mohammed Adamu, said the hospital was in a state of disrepair until 2019 when Gov. Yahaya assumed office and did some reconstruction.
