Equatorial Guinea’s former Director-General of the National Financial Investigation Agency, Baltasar Engonga, has been remanded in Malabo’s Black Beach Prison amid a scandal involving over 400 alleged s*x tapes.

Engonga, who previously led anti-corruption efforts in the country, was initially under investigation for fraud. However, authorities reportedly discovered the tapes, which allegedly feature the wives of prominent figures.

This revelation led to the immediate dismissal of Engonga by President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. The dismissal decree, issued on November 4, cited “irregularities in the exercise of his duties” and “inappropriate family and social conduct.”

A video surfaced on social media on November 8 showing Engonga restrained with handcuffs during a court appearance. French blog Afrikmatin confirmed that after his formal removal on November 6, he was transferred to Malabo Central Prison, facing further charges of corruption and embezzlement.
