Erdogan Travels to Qatar for Arab-Islamic Summit on Israeli Strike
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday departed for Qatar to attend an emergency Arab-Islamic summit convened in response to last week’s Israeli airstrike in Doha.
Erdogan is joined by First Lady Emine Erdogan, National Intelligence Organization (MIT) chief Ibrahim Kalin, foreign policy and security chief adviser Akif Cagatay Kilic, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran, and Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputy chair Halit Yerebakan.
The Doha summit, hosted by Qatar, brings together Arab and Islamic leaders to discuss regional security following the Israeli strike that targeted Hamas officials in the Qatari capital, killing five members of the group and a Qatari security officer.
Qatar, alongside the United States and Egypt, has been a key mediator in efforts to halt Israel’s war on Gaza, where nearly 65,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023.
