EU Ties Ukraine Aid to Transparency, Judicial Reform — Commission Spokesperson
The European Union has reaffirmed that its financial support to Ukraine depends on clear progress in transparency, judicial reform, and democratic governance, particularly regarding the country’s key anti-corruption bodies.
Speaking to Ukrinform, European Commission spokesperson Guillaume Mercier addressed recent developments concerning Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
“The European Union continues to monitor Ukraine’s recent actions with regard to its anti-corruption institutions, NABU and SAPO,” Mercier said. “Our financial assistance remains conditional on Ukraine’s commitment to transparency, judicial reform and democratic governance.”
The statement follows increased scrutiny of Ukraine’s anti-corruption efforts, which are a critical benchmark for EU funding and future accession talks. The EU has consistently emphasized the importance of safeguarding the independence and effectiveness of NABU and SAPO as part of wider reform commitments.
The European Commission has urged Ukrainian authorities to maintain the credibility and autonomy of these institutions to sustain international trust and support in the ongoing war-time recovery and democratic transition.
