Ex-Astronomer CEO Andy Byron Plans to Sue Coldplay Over Viral Kiss Cam Moment

Former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron is reportedly preparing to sue British band Coldplay and concert organizers for emotional distress and invasion of privacy following a viral kiss cam incident at the group’s recent concert in Massachusetts.

During the show, the event’s kiss cam captured Byron and Kristin Cabot — Astronomer’s former head of human resources — in what appeared to be a romantic moment. The pair, who are both married to other people, were seen turning away and hiding their faces as soon as they appeared on the screen, sparking widespread speculation and viral memes online.

The fallout was swift. Both Byron and Cabot were placed on administrative leave, and on Friday, July 25, Astronomer’s Board of Directors announced Byron’s resignation in an official statement. Cabot has also stepped down from her role.

Sources close to the situation say the scandal has affected Byron’s personal life. His wife, Megan Kerrigan, a teacher at Bancroft School, has reportedly moved out of their home, removed Byron’s surname from her Facebook profile, and later deactivated the account. Cabot is married to Andrew Cabot, CEO of Privateer Rum.

According to Page Six, Byron now intends to pursue legal action against Coldplay and the concert’s organizers, claiming he did not consent to being filmed or exposed to public humiliation. “He thinks Coldplay made him a meme,” a source close to Byron said.

Legal experts have weighed in on the potential case. Attorney Camron Dowlatshahi of MSD Lawyers told Page Six that Byron could possibly sue for defamation, particularly if Coldplay frontman Chris Martin’s onstage remarks suggested the two were engaged in an affair. However, Dowlatshahi noted that to succeed, Byron would need to prove that such a relationship did not exist.

The band has yet to comment publicly on the incident.
