Former Nollywood actress Grace Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, has officially joined the United States Navy and earned U.S. citizenship, marking a bold new chapter in her life.
The 33-year-old shared the news on her social media platforms, posting a photo in full Navy uniform and expressing heartfelt gratitude to God, her family, and supporters.
“Last week, I graduated from U.S. Navy boot camp as a Sailor and took the oath as a citizen of the United States,” she wrote.
“Nigeria raised me, America challenged me, and I stand today stronger and more determined than ever.”
She dedicated her milestone to her late father, Naval Commander Asido Bassey Effah.
Bassey previously revealed that she changed her name after a divine spiritual experience, saying the name “Belinda,” which she interpreted as meaning “beautiful serpent,” no longer aligned with her journey.
“God changed my name to Grace after a divine encounter,” she explained, adding that the new name reflects personal transformation, not a change in her core identity.
Before stepping away from the spotlight, Bassey built a strong reputation in Nollywood under the name Belinda Effah, starring in numerous well-received films.
Her transition from the entertainment industry to military service has inspired many, highlighting her resilience, faith, and dedication to personal growth.
