Ex-UK Envoy Peter Mandelson Arrested Over Epstein Links
Former British ambassador to the United States, Peter Mandelson, has been arrested by London police on suspicion of misconduct in public office following fresh revelations about his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Mandelson, 72, was taken into custody after the Metropolitan Police launched a criminal investigation earlier this month, prompted by communications shared with authorities by the government of Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The probe followed the release of emails in late January by the US Department of Justice, which showed a far closer relationship between Mandelson and Epstein than previously known.
According to investigators, the correspondence suggested Mandelson shared sensitive information with Epstein during his time as a minister in the government of former prime minister Gordon Brown. The disclosures led to Mandelson’s dismissal from Britain’s most prestigious diplomatic post in September 2025, when the depth of his friendship with Epstein became public.
In a statement, police confirmed: “Officers have arrested a 72-year-old man on suspicion of misconduct in public office,” referring to an investigation involving a former senior government figure.
Mandelson, who recently resigned from Labour Party and stepped down from his seat in the House of Lords, has previously said he “very deeply” regretted his association with Epstein. He has not publicly commented on the latest arrest.
In a related development, Prince Andrew, the younger brother of King Charles III, was also arrested last week on suspicion of misconduct in public office over allegations of sharing confidential government documents with Epstein. He has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
The investigations mark a major escalation in the fallout from the renewed scrutiny of Epstein’s network and its links to prominent political and public figures in the UK.
