Mr. Femi Owoeye, Operations Manager at Trash Monger, has described the ban on sachet water as a crucial step toward addressing Nigeria’s waste management challenges.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja, Owoeye said the ban aligns with sustainable waste management efforts but requires complementary measures to mitigate its economic impact.
“The ban is long overdue, but there must be affordable alternatives, as not everyone can afford bottled water,” he said.
He emphasized the need for support mechanisms for businesses and individuals affected by the policy, noting that many livelihoods depend on the sachet water industry.
While acknowledging the potential economic disruptions, Owoeye expressed optimism that if effectively enforced, the policy could reduce plastic pollution and enhance recycling efforts in the country.
