FBI Files Expose Foiled ISIS Plot to Bomb Chicago’s 2024 Pride Parade
Newly released FBI records have revealed that ISIS supporters planned a terror attack targeting the 2024 Chicago Pride Parade, according to an NBC Chicago investigative report.
The documents show that the plot, which was never carried out, involved planting a backpack bomb along the parade route as part of a broader campaign of planned attacks on LGBTQ+ events across the United States.
Investigators found that the scheme was organized in a Discord chat group calling itself the “Islamic State of America.” In the chat, one member reportedly wrote: “We will be attacking the Chicago pride parade with a backpack… We are planning on starting with a couple small attacks to get noticed and then start growing from there inshaallah (sic).”
Former Chicago Police Department chief of detectives Eugene Roy, who reviewed the documents, told NBC that the threat highlighted the seriousness of online radicalization. “It certainly should have been taken seriously in the moment… It’s everybody’s worst nightmare having something like that in a densely populated urban community,” he said.
The FBI has not provided details on whether arrests were made but confirmed that the plot was disrupted before it could move forward.
